Present the 10th Jeju International Brass Competition ■ Purpose The Jeju International Brass & Percussion Competition is a joint project of the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival Organizing Committee and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province that seeks to discover and foster young, talented wind instrumentalists from around the world and give them an opportunity to share friendship and cultural exchange with one another. The Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival hopes to accomplish this goal through hosting wind orchestras, professional ensemble concerts and international competitions. ■ Period from August 8 (Sat) through 16 (Sun), 2014 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ Participation Information ▶ Competition Sections Horn, Trumpet, Tenor Trombone, Brass Quintet ▶ Qualification The Jeju International Brass & Percussion Competition is open to competitors of all nationalities who were born January 1, 1984 or later. ▶ Application documents - Official Application Form (download: www.jiwef.org) - Letter of Recommendation For secondary students: to be issued by the principal of his/her school For university students: to be issued by a music professor who has instructed him/her For non-students: to be issued by the chairperson of the concerned organization or by the chairperson of the local wind music association - Self-introduction (400 words or less) - 3 head-shot photos taken within the past 6 months (5cm x 5cm) If submitted by e-mail, the photo file needs to be 2MB or more. - A copy of passport information page or equivalent proof of age ▶ Application deadline - Postmarked no later than Friday, May 29, 2015 - By e-mail: bandfestival@hanmail.net / jiwef@naver.com ▶ Application Address Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival Organizing Committee Jeju Media Center, 82 Shinsanro Jeju City, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province South Korea 690-832 Tel. +82 64-722-8704 Fax. +82 64-753-2208 E-mail: bandfestival@hanmail.net / jiwef@naver.com ▶ Registration Fee - US $200 (If you are paying in Korean Won, the amount of money you are sending much be equal to the exchange rate of the day that you are sending) - When paying the registration fee, one must pay for any transaction fee that occurs during the transaction - Registration Fee must be send before the deadline (any applicants sending payment late will be disqualified) - If the payment is received late, you must provide the receipt proving that the transaction was made before the deadline - At any circumstances, the application and the registration fee is not refundable *accommodation charge is refundable (only for Korean applicants) ▶ Accommodation Charge (only for Korean applicants) - Korean applicants can choose to stay at the competition official facility (dormitory) or stay in different facility with their own expenses - If the applicant choose to stay at the competition official facility (dormitory), applicant must pay 250,000 Korean Won with the application fee - Breakfast is provided for applicants who are staying at the competition official facility - Korean national residing abroad is waived from the accommodation charge but the applicant must provide the student ID from the attending school AND the confirmation of residency in a foreign country *all foreign applicants are waived from paying the accommodation charge and are free to stay at the competition official facility - Bank: KOREA EXCHANGE BANK - Branch Name: JEJU BRANCH - SWIFT Code: KOEXKRSE - TELEX: 23141 - Bank Address: 1430-9, 1DONG, 1-DO, JEJU-CITY, JEJUDO, #690-011, KOREA - BANK CODE: 053455 - Account number: 630-007637-410 - Account name: JIWEFOC (Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival Organizing Committee) ▶ ID Card All candidates should bring the ID Card issued by the Organization Committee for the duration of the competition. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ Housing Unless there is a special reason, all candidates must stay at the accommodations offered by our committee. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ Score Reference Candidates may refer to the musical score while performing during the competition. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ Accompanist ▶ The committee can provide official piano accompanists who are acknowledged experts if needed. ▶ In the case that a competitor brings his or her own piano accompanist, he or she must pay the accompanist's housing fee of 250,000 Korean Won, which includes breakfast. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ PRIZES AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS ▶ Prizes: The prize winner of each section will be awarded a certificate, a trophy, and a cash prize. [Soloist Division] The 1st Prize: US $ 7,000 The 2nd Prize: US $ 5,000 The 3rd Prize: US $ 4,000 [Brass Quintet Division] The 1st Prize: US $ 12,000 The 2nd Prize: US $ 9,000 The 3rd Prize: US $ 7,000 ▶ Cash prizes will be given in Korean Won at the current rate of dollar exchange on the awarding day. Taxes will be deducted from prizes according to Korean tax law in effect at the time of the competition. ▶ If there is no winner in a section, prizes will not be given. ▶ In the case of a tie, prize money will be added from the next lower prize rank and distributed equally between the two. The cash award of the next lower rank will not be awarded. ▶ Special award: for one competitor-US $1,500 -There may be other special prizes from many supporting organizations in addition to the prizes mentioned above. Previous years’ prizes have included: ○ 2012 Adams (the Netherlands): One marimba for 1st place in Percussion Besson (France): One euphonium for 1st place in Euphonium Yamaha (Japan): One bass trombone for 1st place in Bass Trombone ○ 2013 Courtois (France): One tenor trombone for 1st place in Tenor Trombone Adams (the Netherlands): 2,000 EUR for 1st place in Trumpet Yamaha (Japan): One horn for 1st place in Horn ○ 2014 Yamaha (Japan): One bass trombone for 1st place in Bass Trombone Adams (the Netherlands): One marimba for 1st place in Percussion ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ 1st Preliminary, 2nd Preliminary, and Finals The 1st Preliminary and 2nd Preliminary will be accompanied by the piano and the final round will be accompanied by a symphony orchestra. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ First Prize Winners All the first prize winners of each section must perform at the winners’ concerts. They will also be invited to perform as a soloist at the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival the following year. Airfare, free accommodation and meals will be offered. However, the first prize winners cannot apply for the competition again. Previous winners performing as soloists will not be paid for their performances. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ Winners’ Concert All first place winners from each section must perform at the winners’ concert. But according to circumstances where a first place award is not given, the second-place person can perform. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ The Judges ▶ From Korea: Distinguished persons acknowledged in the wind music field both domestically and abroad. ▶ From Abroad: Professional musicians invited to the ensemble festival, acknowledged worldwide in the wind music field. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■ PROCEDURE OF JUDGMENT ▶ All the competitions are conducted openly and detailed judging criteria will be established separately, complying with those of international competitions. ▶ All judges must attend all the competitions of every section ranging from the first to the final rounds. In the case where a judge has been the instructor of a candidate for three months or more in the past two years, the judge must abstain from judging the candidate. ▶ Communication between the judges and the competitors during the period of competition is not allowed. Any violations of this rule may result in the disqualification of both judges and competitors. ▶ All decisions made by the Organizing Committee and the judges will be final and will not be subject to appeal or reversal of decision. |
