Chairman of JIWEF Organizing Committee Yang Seung Bo
Hoping that the sweet melody of the wind music in Jeju Island will be a blissful gift to all of you.
I would like to express my warmest greetings to all those who came to Jeju for the 28th Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival and the 18th Jeju International Brass Competition.
Jeju is commonly known as the island of wind.
Thatched roofs densely entwined with straw and stone walls perforated with holes are the best known examples of what wind of Jeju has made.
In Jeju, wind is the resource of electricity, the power source of running electric cars, and the driving force of the creating a new energy revolution.
The wind that has twined around fields of Jeju and volcanic peaks is harmonized with the brass music and is loved by the world.
This year, there are many brass musicians will visit Jeju from various countries.
The golden melody that resonates magnificently in performance venues, villages, and multi-cultural spaces will refresh the summer of Jeju.
In particular, performances with ‘Haenyeo’(woman diver) and bakk-goe-ri(outbuilding of Jeju traditional housing) concerts will be newly coming.
Also, Jeju´s folk song arranged for brass music will be premiered and will touch tour heart.
I trust that the charm of wind music will be loved this year as it has always met the demands of the public audiences by breaking down the boundaries between countries and regions, races and languages and performers and the audience.
Hoping that the melody of the glowing wind music in Jeju Island will be a blissful gift to all of you, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Hyun Eul-Sang, the chairperson of the JIWEF Organizing Committee and the everyone involved in arranging this festival, as well as the audience.
